Geoffrey Rush to Voice the Character of Tomar-Re in Green Lantern

The Los Angeles Times reports that Geoffrey Rush has joined the cast of director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern adaptation. Rush won't exactly appear on screen, instead providing the voice of Tomar-Re, a bird-beaked alien member of the Green Lantern Corps.

The character of Tomar-Re appears briefly appears in the movie's first and only trailer, and reportedly will teach Hal Jordan, a.k.a. Green Lantern (Ryan Reynolds), how to use his new-found powers. For those not familiar with the comic books, the Green Lantern Corps is a intergalactic peace-keeping force, and Jordan becomes the first Earthling to be a Green Lantern.

Warner Bros. confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Rush has already recorded the voice of Tomar-Re for the movie, which is fortunate since the movie debuts on June 17. Rush joins a cast that already includes Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins, Mark Strong, and Angela Bassett, though, considering Rush's work is limited to a recording booth, will likely meet his co-stars at the premiere.
